The sprint nights are open to all experience levels of track rider, the three-hour session follows a set schedule commencing at 6pm. The goal for the series is to demonstrate that there is an interest in matched sprint events in Perth, and that sprinting is both fun and educational for all cyclists.
Riders will have a 30 minute warm up period, either on the track, or on rollers. Once the track has been cleared, each participant then completes a timed 200. From these times, the whole group is then seeded according to ability, from grades A through to E, ensuring that everyone is challenged appropriately.
Each subsequent round of racing will have three or four match sprints between pairs of riders from within each categorised group. Riders will be rotated, thus competing against different riders within their own grade. Each round takes from 20 to 30 minutes.
This session is proving to be both extremely popular and superbly well organised, and offers track cyclists the opportunity to learn from more experienced sprinters and coaches, within a controlled, enjoyable and safe environment.
An audience for the evening is very much encouraged!
Please note that during the winter months session participants are encouraged to wear warm clothing, arm and leg warmers. Gloves and a helmet are essential. .
